It then disgorges it into my Mac (works with PC, too) when I “dock” th pen into its holder.

The pen also has a very sensitive voice recorder. I can turn on recording while taking notes; then if I touch the pen to the text, afterwards, whatever was being said at the moment that particular jot was jotted will play back from the pen’s surprisingly load speaker (or into headphones).

The desktop software also does some recognition of the handwriting, so you can actually search your notes.
