This isn't a legal post and the comment about lawyers (and on a usually legal blog) is a red herring in hindsight. Disclosure said, I don't think I'd really say I'd be more tolerant of this word depending on a racial element. I don't think it's an issue of the person saying it, it's not like a racial epithet that only "works" if it's about the speaker's group. I'm more coming from a visceral dislike of the word itself. I think it's even ugly to look at, it's as gut level as that. It's at a much more basic level than legal judgement. At this rate my next post will be my views on art. It's just an aesthetic thing.
