Thank you. I actually believe one decent family dinner around first year with legal problems for conversation should convince all law students their opinions aren't even authoritative on law.

I think we really aren't going to look back in 10 years time to the XXXX v Professor Galloway emails and say "didn't he resolve that dispute well?" but I wonder if the professor, in a very fallible and human way, just gave up on this guy. What can you really do with a guy who comes into your class an hour late and then tries to teach you manners? Getting snarky and telling him what for suddenly seems a very reasonable choice when you're faced with unreasonable people.

Nice post. I agree that the student was a bit clueless here. I would have liked to see the professor take the high road and teach the student something about respect by making himself worthy of respect instead of fear and enmity. The professor had a fantastic opportunity to teach about professionalism. It's unfortunate that he missed his chance.

You've made some very astute observations, one of which is that Slackoisie is an attitude rather than an age category. Far too many law students believe that their opinion, on any subject, is athoritative. It's annoying on a personal level, and destructive on a professional level. No judge cares what you think of your argument, and your recognition of this is a critical step in your development. It's unfortunate that most of your peers have yet to achieve that level of awareness.
